Good to know VLC fixes the DVD playback issue. I can’t help wondering if a program like bb4win would fix the desktop personalization/background setting issue. Has anyone tried it or one its forks for Windows? Also, Media Player Classic – Home Cinema and mplayer (which has several front end options) are two other good alternatives to VLC.
