Design
The Asus Eee PC 1005PE has a glossy lid that is covered in a scratch-resistant Infusion finish. The look is sleek, but you’ll have to be willing to put up with fingerprint smudges. It comes with a chiclet style keyboard. While the keys may seem smaller than those on its predecessor which have a traditional layout, the 1005PE keyboard is easier and more comfortable to type on.
Performance And Battery Life
The Asus Eee PC 1005PE running on Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB RAM, and integrated graphic chipset provides similar performance as other single core netbooks on the market. This means that you can check email, surf the web, listen to music, process a document using Microsoft Office, and the system will handle all of them flawlessly. But for demanding tasks like HD video streaming, gaming, and video encoding, this machine will struggle.
Battery life of the Eee PC 1005PE is the best at the time this review is written. Asus claims that it will last for 14 hours, but that’s only when you turn off WiFi and set the screen brightnes to minimum. In normal daily use, expect 10 to 12 hours of battery life depending on what activity you perform.

Performance Test:
Availability
The Eee PC 1005PE (1005PE-PU17) is currently available on Amazon
for $379.99. Two colors are available for the moment: black
and blue
.
There’s also another lower-end model, 1005PE-PU17, which is cheaper at $339.99, but with less battery life.
Joanna Stern from Engadget says:
Though we’re a bit disappointed in Pine Trail’s minimal performance improvement, especially in terms of streaming 720p video content, that’s not to say the $380 1005PE won’t be a solid, affordable choice for those looking for a 10-inch netbook with seriously impressive battery life when it goes on sale January 4th. And when it comes to netbooks, Pine Trail or not, you can’t really ask for much more.
Dan Ackerman from CNet says:
As the first next-gen Intel Atom Netbook, Asus’ Eee PC 1005PE offers amazing battery life, but otherwise feels like a last-gen system.
Michael A. Prospero from Laptop Magazine says:
In the Eee PC 1005PE-P, ASUS has improved upon its best netbook in multiple ways. For roughly the same price as the earlier version, you’re getting a larger hard drive, a sturdier keyboard, over 100 minutes of additional runtime, and more robust software. While Intel’s new Atom N450 processor doesn’t really improve performance, the extra endurance it provides will certainly be welcome among netbook users. At $379, this netbook is a bargain, undercutting the Toshiba mini NB205 by $20 while lasting longer on a charge. We give the edge to the NB205 because of its more comfortable touchpad and mouse buttons, but the 1005PE is a still a stellar value.

The PE1005-PU17 seems like a great notebook to buy. However do you think it is worth waiting for the 1005PR to come out? If so, do you know any info on the PR? Thanks
