We have seen the comparison of CPU and graphic performance between AMD Ontario C-50 and Intel Atom N550 before, and now here’s the comparison of power consumption between the two.
Nicole from netbooknews.com gets her hands on the new Toshiba NB550D (which features AMD C-50) and run a few power consumption tests using OS Iris Development Battery Bar and compare it with the Acer Aspire Happy (which features Atom N550). The result shows that the Atom N550 consume less power than the AMD C-50 even in idle mode. Similarly, when playing HD video, the Acer Happy still consume less power but it obviously can’t handle HD content. Check out the video below to see the test:
The conclusion is that Intel Atom N550 is slightly better than the AMD Ontario C-50 in terms of power consumption, but considering the C-50 is capable of delivering much higher graphic performance, we would still say that the AMD Fusion platform overall is still more efficient than the Atom platform.
