Engadget has recently reviewed the Eee PC 1015PE and 1018P — 2 new netbook models that Asus recently added to its Eee PC lineup.

Both netbooks come with a pretty standard set of specs: Intel Atom N450 / N455 / N470 / N475 processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB HDD, and GMA 3150 graphics. So performance is pretty much the same as their predecessor, the 1005PE, and most other 10-inch netbook models on the market. They are capable of playing standard definition video and handling daily computing tasks well, but not capable of playing HD video smoothly out of the box.

In terms of battery life, the 1015PE’s 47Wh 6-cell battery lasts for 5 hours, while the 1018P’s 44Wh 6-cell battery lasts for 4 hours 40 minutes from Engadget’s battery test (looping the same standard-def video at 65 percent brightness continuously). Both results are poorer than the 1005PE which lasts for 8 hours from the same test.

While there’s nothing to be excited about their performance, both the Eee PC 1015PE and 1018P have more stylish design than their predecessors, especially the 1018P which has a brushed metal lid and measures only 0.7 inches thick.

Samsung recently revealed another netbook model called the N220 Plus Premium in France. As you can probably tell from its name, the Samsung N220 Plus Premium is an improved version of the N220 netbook. It has 2GB of RAM, 320GB of hard disk drive, and Bluetooth 3.0.

Laptop Magazine recently reviewed the Acer Aspire One D260 netbook. The unit they reviewed comes with an Intel Atom N475 processor, 1GB RAM, and a 250GB HDD. They have found this netbook to have an attractive external design, average performance, and below average battery life (5 hours which is lower than other netbooks that they have reviewed recently including N150 Plus, HP Mini 210, and the Eee PC 1001P).

Here’s their verdict:

“Acer prioritized looks and portability above longevity in the D260, but this netbook manages to be charming even with its below-average battery life. Its $299 price is equally attractive, but for the same amount you could scoop up the ASUS Eee PC 1001P, which, though it has a smaller 160GB hard drive, fared better in several performance tests, including battery life. Still, if you think 5 hours or runtime is enough, the Aspire One D260 has plenty going for it, not the least of which being its charisma.”

What’s unexpected is that Acer does not give users the capability to upgrade the 1GB DDR3 RAM on the Aspire One 533 to 2GB. An Amazon customer reported that Acer has confirmed this limitation:

So if you are going to run software like Abobe Photoshop that require lots of memory space to run smoothly, the Aspire One 533 might not be for you.

Good news for those who have been desperately waiting for the Asus Eee PC 1215N — this model of netbook which features an 1.8GHz dual-core Atom D525 CPU, Nvidia ION 2 GPU, and Optimus technology, will be released on around 23rd of August, according to Engadget. Even better, the Eee PC 1215N is expected to sell under $500.

The Asus Eee PC 1005PE has been one of the best netbook for this year. The one biggest drawback of this netbook however is the glossy display that cause reflection when being used in a bright environment. Asus is now announcing a new netbook model called the Eee PC 1005PX which has the same basic design and specs as the 1005PE, but with a matte display which should resolve the reflection issue.

Besides the glossy display, Asus has made a few minor changes on the 1005PX compared to its predecessor. First, it has 2 USB ports instead of 3; second, it has a 48Whr 6-cell battery instead of 63Whr found on the 1005PE; and third, it lets consumers to select up to 320GB of storage space. Other than that, the 1005PX has the all the same specs as the 1005PE: 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 processors, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, etc.
