Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Tablet Convertible Netbook Reviewed

Engadget has a review of the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t tablet netbook up, and concluded that this machine is a no-go for them.

The unit that they reviewed is one with Intel Atom N470 processor, 4-cell battery and Windows 7 Home Premium which cost $649. The touchscreen is found to be pretty responsive and browsing through the internet using the touchscreen is enjoyable. The battery life is also quite decent which lasted for 4.5 hours of continuous web browsing.

However, there are several drawbacks on this machine that Engadget is disappointed about. The first one is that it’s found to be performing slower than the HP Mini 210 which is equipped with a slower Atom N450 processor. And then when they were testing out the built-in accelerometer, they have to manually press the button on the screen bezel for rotation — the accelerometer isn’t working for them. Finally, they also find the keyboard and touchpad of the S10-3t to be too small, and the viewing angle of the screen is pretty poor.

Here’s a hands on video from Engadget showing some touch interface and also the poor screen viewing angle of the s10-3t.

Broadcom Crystal HD Card Not Working On Lenovo Ideapd S10-3

Peter from Netbooked has tried installing the Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder in the free PCI-e slot of the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 and found that it’s not working due to the possibility that Lenovo has locked the PCI slot. According to him, the netbook won’t even boot up after installing the Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder in there. What’s good about Lenovo netbook though, is that they always provide easy access for HDD and RAM upgrade. Here’s the video demonstration of installing the Broadcom Crystal HD Card on the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 from Peter:

Laptop Magazine has reviewed the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 which was just released last month. It’s a Pine Trail netbook that comes with Intel Atom N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, and 6-cell battery.

While the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 looks pretty normal in terms of the specs, Laptop Magazine finds new design has a somewhat more professional look and a lid that does a better job of resisting fingerprints than other models. Also, the Dolby-powered speakers on the S10-3 are said to be better than most other netbooks that they have come across so far. The six-cell battery in the S10-3 lasted 6 hours and 55 minutes on the LAPTOP Battery Test, which is quite good.

The weakest aspect of the Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 is the touchpad with integrated buttons on the touch area. “The cursor jumped around at times, especially when trying to select a block of text”, according to Laptop Magazine.

Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 is currently available for pre-order on Amazon for $349.99.
