Moblin v2.1 on a Netbook

Moblin (short form for ‘mobile Linux’) is an open source operating system designed specifically for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), netbooks, nettops and embedded devices. It’s built around the Intel Atom processor and is designed to minimize boot times and power consumption.

Moblin 2.1 for Intel Atom based netbooks was recently released. In the following video, you will see Kevin from JKOnTheRun playing around with this OS, and find this lightweight OS walking away impressed. The user interface is intuitive, although it will take some getting used to, and the overall environment is fluid and snappy. Also, Kelvin is running a live image from a USB drive, so an actual installation should perform even better! For those who are interested to try Moblin 2.1, it’s available for free download here.
